A Bouquet of Rosé for Mother’s Day

Posted by: samy April 29, 2016 No Comments

IMG_4087At the time of this writing, we’re drinking rosé. Not that that should come as a surprise. We’re always drinking rosé. Just check our Instagram if you need proof.

Spring is the season for rosé – bridal showers, baby showers and Mother’s Day all inspire the pink wine cravings. Now, we think a decent rosé deserves air time no matter what time of year – its affinity for cheese plates, seafood and vegetarian dishes earns it a spot on most played list. Need some convincing? Pick one anyone of these blushing wines and see for yourself.

Campo Viejo Tempranillo Rosé, Rioja Spain 2015
$11.70 LCBO 175620
Easy drinking, full of fresh red berries and an absolutely terrific price. (Which also makes it a perfect contender for our rosé sangria aka our Love Potion).

FullSizeRender-1Trius Rosé, VQA Niagara-on-the-Lake 2015
$15.95 LCBO 341743
Sporting a lighter new white label this year (the photo above is from last year), Trius is one of our all-time favourites. This is a red blend with fresh red cherry and raspberry, melon and sweet citrus. Perfect for afternoon patio sipping.

Carpineto Dogajolo Rosato, Tuscany, Italy 2014
$14.95 Vintages 699934
With a base of Sangiovese (the main red grape of Chianti), this is crisp and bright with strawberry and raspberry.

IMG_4078Duca Catemario “Collezione Privata” Pinot Grigio Rosé, Della Venzie, Italy 2015
$14.95 Vintages 451146
Also included in our Top 20 of the current Vintages release, this could very well be our rosé of summer. Ultra light pink wth fresh watermelon, white currant and tangerine. Dangerously drinkable.

IMG_4079Domaine Maby “La Forcadiere” Rosé, Tavel, France 2015
$18.95 Vintages 701318
Another Top 20 contender, this is complete departure from the expected light and quaffable rosé styles, this has some considerable weight. Pouring so deep pink it nearly looks red, there’s fine tannin and flavours of ripe berries but also smoked cedar plank. A great pairing for barbecued salmon.

IMG_4076Saint Aix Rosé, Coteaux d’Aix en Provence, France
$22.95 Vintages 451906
A slightly earthy, wild raspberry nose with bright flavours of strawberry and mandarin orange with a lovely racy acidity.

IMG_4077Château La Tour de L’Eveque Rosé, Côtes de Provence, France 2015
$19.95 Vintages 319392
Floral, peach and stone fruit aromas and flavours on this mid-weight and surprisingly substantial rose. Pretty and feminine with round features brightened by vibrant acidity.

IMG_4075L’Ostal Cazes Rosé, Pays d’Oc, France 2015
$14.95 Vintages 450809
With a nose of juicy apple and sweet citrus, the palate is soft, focused and easy drinking with bright, mineral-driven acidity and pretty flavours of stone fruit and red berry.

Muga, Rioja, Spain 2015
$13.95 Vintages 603795
Fresh with tangy acid and light flavours of red berry and melon. Try with chicken salad sandwiches or spicy seared prawns.

FullSizeRenderMalivoire “Moira” Rosé, VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula 2015
$24.95 malivoire.com
The new vintage will be available in small quantities in May, and we will be lining up for the new release of this tiny production, French-inspired rosé.  Beyond the pale pink, this is gossamer fine with delicate notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and a mineral underpinning. Absolutely elegant.

IMG_3367Kew “Rosalie” Method Traditionelle sparkling wine, VQA Niagara Peninsula 2011
$29.95 kewvineyards.com
And where would we be without a few pink bubbles? Soft and delicate this is 100% Pinot Noir with notes of red berries and cream stuffed puff pastry.
