Kacaba Cabernet/Syrah, VQA Niagara Escarpment, ON 2013

kacaba tableWe’re currently relaxing lake side at the cottage. The days are very warm, and in the great Ontario North, the evenings are starting to feel a tiny bit cool. Maybe it’s a sign that we truly are Canadian, but we’re actually enjoying these cooler nights, putting on a cozy sweatshirt and sitting by a fire… it’s a pretty nice way to spend an evening.

Which brings us to our next point. It’s time to start bringing out the fuller reds again. As you can see in these photos, a plus red wine + meat grilled on an open flame + cooler evening = very happy Wine Sisters.

This week we’re drinking Kacaba.

$18.95 winery only
Rich and vibrant with blackberry, cassis, humidor and sweet tobacco notes. Tannins are well integrated in this reasonably priced red blend that gives the slight edge to Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) and the remainder to Syrah, for a bold yet approachable wine that has both power and elegance. Add a nice piece of rare beef and it doesn’t get any better.
