blood orangeBlood Orange Martini

We learned something about ourselves while researching this blog. The best alcoholic combination for Campari is gin.

In a martini mood, we originally whipped up a mix of Campari and vodka. It tasted more like bad cough syrup (as opposed to really good cough syrup), than the smooth afternoon elixir we craved to get us over that 3pm slump.

Reaching for a Blood orange – which is currently in their all-too-fleeting season – we thought, what the hell? (which is almost always the best answer to any situation) and mixed up a pretty classic combo of fresh Blood orange juice, Campari and our beloved gin. Fruity, bitter, herbaceous and floral, it’s a winning combination, if we do say so, indeed.

  • 1 ¾ oz. gin
  • ½ oz. Campari
  • 1 oz. fresh blood orange juice

In a shaker filled with ice, pour all three ingredients in and shake. Strain into a rocks glass – or martini glass if you’re feeling fancy.
