Irish Coffee

Irish coffeeIt might be the grey, gloomy day, or the fact that we’ve been working like dogs lately (dogs work hard, right?) but man are we in need of a nap – and a drink.

In order to put a little spring in our step for Happy Hour – we’re fortifying our afternoon coffee before heading out to meet the girls for an after-work tipple.

Enter the Irish Coffee, a cup o’ joe, some good whiskey and a little cream, that’s a pick-me-up party-in-a-glass if we do say so ourselves. And the best part is, the nosy parker in the next cubicle won’t have any idea what you’re up to.

  • 1 cup (8 ounces) fresh brewed, hot, black coffee
  • 1 Tbsp (or to taste) brown sugar
  • 1.5 ounces Irish whiskey, such as Jamieson’s
  • Heavy cream, lightly whipped

Fill a glass mug with boiling water to heat, and dump out. Add sugar to warmed mug, topping with black coffee. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add whisky. Gently pour slightly thickened cream* over the back of the spoon to top the coffee and serve

*Note: Irish coffee is not to be served with whipped cream like other speciality coffees. Just unsweetened, heavy cream floated on top is how to properly make a true Irish coffee.
